Face to face domestic visits at Mount Gambier Prison have been temporarily postponed.

Upon receiving advice that the risk of COVID-19 has significantly increased due to the current outbreak in Victoria, DCS sought public health advice in relation to the planned recommencement of domestic visits. In response, SA Health recommended that face to face domestic visits at Mount Gambier Prison should be deferred due to its proximity to the Victorian border.

As the COVID-19 situation is constantly changing, the decision on when to reintroduce face to face visits at Mount Gambier Prison will be reviewed weekly.  DCS wants to reassure visitors that face to face visits that have been cancelled will be honoured when visits can safely recommence. In the interim, virtual visits are available.

DCS is working extremely hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and despite our best efforts and intentions, some activities are subject to change at short notice.

At this time, face to face domestic visits can proceed safely at all other prison locations. We continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation in South Australia and should the risk of community transmission escalate we will act immediately to reassess the department’s position.

We thank you for your understanding.
