From 13 July, DCS began to reintroduce face to face visits in a staged approach based on health advice.

We previously advised through the DCS Roadmap for Domestic Visits that we would be moving to Stage Two from 27 July and Stage Three from 24 August.

Given the increasing risk of COVID-19 at this time, DCS has been closely monitoring the situation and is receiving regular advice from SA Health.

At this time DCS has determined to remain at Stage One visits to protect the health, safety and welfare of all staff, prisoners, and their families and friends.

The following safety measures remain in place for face to face visits until further notice:

  • A limit of one adult visitor (plus children) per prisoner
  • Prisoner and visitor must sit at least 1.5 metres apart
  • Maximum of 45 minutes.

Visitors are encouraged to access virtual visits as their first choice to help minimise risk to everybody.

We will continue to review the decision to stay at Stage One on a weekly basis.

Mount Gambier Prison face to face visits will continue to be deferred due to its proximity to the Victorian border. This decision is also being reviewed on a weekly basis.

The DCS Roadmap for Domestic Visits has been updated to reflect these changes.
