The annual DCS Merit Awards were held on Friday, 19 February 2021, at the Adelaide Town Hall.

The annual DCS Merit Awards were held on Friday, 19 February 2021, at the Adelaide Town Hall.

The Merit Awards are a great way to formally recognise the contributions and individual and team based achievements of the past year.

Each award recipient was presented with a certificate and trophy by the Minister for Correctional Services Vincent Tarzia and Deputy Chief Executive Jackie Bray.

The awards categories are:

Individual Commendation Award
The Individual Commendation Award is presented to employees who show efficiency and diligence in their role through commitment to leadership, innovation, knowledge and professionalism.

Team Excellence Award
The Team Excellence Award recognises teams and work units for their contributions to the achievement of the Department's goals in:

  • Leadership and management
  • Innovation and productivity
  • Partnerships and service
  • Systems or project development,
  • Facilitating continuous improvement through Corporate and Stakeholder focus.

Community Partnerships Award
The Community Partnerships Award category recognises significant partnerships between DCS and other Government agencies as well as the private and not for profit sectors.

Meritorious Service Medal
The Meritorious Service Medal is presented to employees for outstanding service above and beyond what is required in their paid employment.

Women's Excellence Award
The Women's Excellence Award recognises distinguished service and acknowledges the achievements of women working in Correctional Services.

Shaping Corrections Award
The Shaping Corrections Award is open to people who have made an outstanding contribution to the Shaping Corrections program.

Aunty Coral Wilson Memorial Award
The Aunty Coral Wilson Memorial Award recognises outstanding commitment by a staff member or members in improving outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Medal of Valour
The Medal of Valour award recognises individuals who have displayed an exceptional level of personal valour and bravery in hazardous circumstances to the Department and its Stakeholders.

Australia Day Achievement Medallions
The Australia Day Achievement Medallions acknowledge dedicated public sector employees.  The Medallions are presented to employees who have made a significant contribution to the work of their department during the past year, or given outstanding service over a number of years.
