Example contraband list

Examples of prohibited items that are strictly not permitted to be mailed to a prisoner including but not limited to:

  • illicit drugs
  • prescription and non-prescription medications
  • implements linked to drug use (eg. syringe)
  • any form of powders
  • offensive materials (eg. pornographic or racist material)
  • tobacco or implements linked to tobacco use (eg. lighters, matches, filters)
  • chewing gum
  • incense, potpourri, candles, oils or diffusers
  • movies, CDs, DVDs over M rating
  • plastic bags or wrap (eg. cling wrap)
  • photographs (you must write to the prison's General Manager for approval)
  • disposable razors/razor blades
  • yeast or yeast extracts
  • any flammable, corrosive or toxic substance
  • any electronic communication, recording or storage device (eg. mobile phone, sim card, camera, memory card, USB storage device etc)
  • cash
  • electronic money orders (standard money orders accepted)
  • smart watches/activity trackers
  • weapons
  • tools
  • alcohol or any alcohol based products
  • outlaw motorcycle group or other gang related items (e.g. flags, patches or clothing).
  • any item that is deemed by DCS to pose a potential risk to the safety and security of the institution, prisoners, any employee or member of the community.
