In 2016 DCS was proud to become a White Ribbon accredited workplace.

In 2019 DCS began working towards re-accreditation as a White Ribbon workplace, as part of the State Government’s Workplace Equality and Respect (WER) Project. As part of the WER project, DCS will develop and implement a Gender Equality and Respect Action Plan that aligns with Our Watch’s Workplace Equality and Respect Standards.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the re-accreditation process (due to be completed by June 2020) was put on hold. The timeframe for DCS to submit evidence for re-accreditation was subsequently reset for November 2020. DCS continues to work towards implementation of the department’s Gender Equality and Respect Action Plan and gathering of evidence for re-accreditation .

As part of this process, DCS has created a Statement of Commitment to Gender Equality and Respect and the Prevention of Violence Against Women (GER Statement). The GER Statement affirms our commitment to Gender Equality and Respect in the workplace, acknowledging that gender inequality and disrespect are key drivers of violence against women. It is a fundamental communication tool that will serve to underline and demonstrate our commitment to a workplace that is free from violence, harassment and discrimination. “Expect Respect” is the key message that underpins our commitment.
