Face-to-face domestic visits to South Australian prisons are suspended from 12.01am Saturday 17 July 2021.

Virtual (Zoom) visits will be facilitated where possible.

The decision to suspend face-to-face prison visits was not made lightly and served as a pre-emptive measure in response to the evolving COVID threat interstate.

The health, safety and security of our staff, prisoners, visitors, and the community remain our top priority.

We understand the importance of family and community connections to the wellbeing, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners. We also understand for families and friends the importance of staying connected to prisoners.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in SA and will review this decision regarding visits next week.

Who does this apply to?

This applies to all domestic visitors:

  • Family and friends

This decision will not affect professional visits. Professional visitors are reminded that masks are mandatory when entering all South Australian prisons. They are encouraged to seek alternative options in the first instance when planning a visit to a prisoner.
