Yatala Labour Prison

Yatala Labour Prison was so named in the late 19th century because it included a vast industries complex and much of the prison was built using natural rock cut from nearby quarries by prisoners. Nowadays prisoners volunteer to work. Much of the current industry practice is manufacturing geared towards supplying private industry. Yatala is the main South Australian prison capable of accommodating 395 males in high, medium and low security facilities. The prison is the main centre for assessment and induction of prisoners.
