Status

 
An Expression of Interest (EOI) was issued on 7 December 2007.
The EOI closed on 30 January 2008.
The SA Treasurer approved a shortlist of three bidders on 12 May 2008, refer our webpage for additional information concerning these consortia.

Requests for Proposals (RFP) are proposed to be sought in July 2008.

Department for Correctional Services (DCS);

Department for Families and Communities (DFC); and

Department of Health (DH).

Project Description

This project involves the development of five new facilities:

  • A New Men’s and Women’s Prison (NMWP) sharing a single secure perimeter with a number of units shared between the two (eg a single gatehouse, medical centre, etc) managed by DCS, comprising
    • a 760 cell Men's Prison expandable to 940 cells during the life of the contract, and
    • a 150 cell Women's Prison expandable to 200 cells during the life of the contract.
  • An 80 bed Pre-Release Centre at Cavan (60 men’s beds and 20 women’s beds) in a single secure perimeter with each unit separated with secure perimeter fences, expandable to 100 beds (70 men and 30 women) during the life of the contract.
  • A 90 bed Secure Youth Training Centre (SYTC) at Cavan replacing the existing 80 beds at Magill and Cavan, managed by DFC
  • A $40 million, 40 bed Forensic Mental Health Centre  (FMHC) at Mobilong replacing the existing 30 bed James Nash House at Oakden, managed by DH.

The private sector partner will design, finance, build and maintain the facilities.
Core services will be delivered by the public sector.
