Shaping Corrections

Shaping Corrections is the Department for Correctional Services’ (DCS) key innovation and service improvement initiative, which focuses on:

  • Continuous improvement – improving our services (systems, processes and practice).
  • Collaboration and engagement – collaborating with and engaging staff, stakeholders, partners, and the community to identify, develop and implement service improvements;
  • Sustainable innovation - exploring and championing new ideas and new ways of doing things which can be sustained over the long-term.

A key feature and success of Shaping Corrections are the staff forums known as Regional Working Groups (RWGs).

RWGs consist of staff representatives from the various business areas and different levels across the department, which meet together bi-monthly, to workshop, discuss, engage and collaborate and provide innovative solutions to address complex and critical issues for the department and to continuously improve services.

Regional Working Groups add value to the organisation by tapping into the knowledge, skills and local experience of staff to develop new and improved services.
